The assignment was about making a new print advertisement for Volkswagen in consideration of their recent scandal about how they had created defeat devices for their cars in order to mask how much carbon dioxide their cars actually put out. This advertisement was meant to mirror elements that their previous Think Small campaign used. That meant a black and white image, a white background, copy in a staggering manner with 3 columns, and with the copy being completely honest in tone.
For this ad I decided to show an image that pertained exactly to the issue at hand and have a pun for a headline. The “hole” refers to the hole of the exhaust pipe as well as the holes in the lies Volkswagen told.
